#Fact Check: Do Higher Minimum Wages Lower Suicide Rates?

Finding: True

A recent study relying on statistical analisys found strong evidence that higher minimum wages were linked to slower growth in suicide rates. The study used data from over 400 thousand suicides, from all 50 US states over the 10 years between 2006 and 2016. It found that while suicide rates had increased across the board, they had increased less rapidly in states with higher minimum wages. On average, every dollar above federal minimum correlated with a 1.8% reduction in suicides, relative to other states.
